The challenge.

795 million people live with chronic hunger. That is about one out of every nine people on the planet! Imagine a yoga class to that has nine people in it. This means one of those people did not have enough food to live a healthy life.

We all know how it feels to be hungry. We may experience a distracting discomfort in our stomach, we don’t think as clearly as we usually do, and we generally don’t have as much stamina as we’d like. Fortunately, most of us do not have to experience hunger for more than a couple of hours. Imagine being in that state for several days, or even longer! That is the state that 795 million people are living in.

Clearly, we have our work set out for us!

Chronic hunger is a serious problem. It extends beyond the way it makes us feel physically unwell, and even beyond the way it negatively effects our thinking. That kind of hunger- long-term, unnecessary hunger- resonates in our psyche. Starvation communicates to us that we are not worthy of one of the most basic of life’s necessities: food. On a subconscious level, we adopt and integrate these beliefs. Like any limiting belief, it impacts the way we are able to function in the world and what we are able to do and achieve in our life.

Feed a billion by 2020.

Feed A Billion was founded in 2016. It is a 501 (c)(3) that advocates and seeks to provide nutrition for the hungry. The organization works with other existing organizations to help keep their costs low and feed more people. Because Feed A Billion works with existing organizations serving the areas they work in, meals provided are very much like a typical meal found in that region. Each meal costs less than 10 cents! Feed A Billion’s goal is to feed one billion people by November 20, 2020. However, the work does not stop in 2020. Feed A Billion already has plans to expand their work to eliminate hunger through practical, sustainable efforts like improving crop yields and reducing food waste.

If you would like to get involved with Feed A Billion, check out their webpage! They are very grateful for monetary donations, and open to using your talents where they are most needed! During the month of November, Eternal Health Yoga will be partnering with Feed A Billion. Our hashtag this month is #givemeals. Every check-in at EHY will provide a meal to someone in need.  Check-in. Feed people. Do good!
